Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity Grows as Teens Prepare to Oppose Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- More and more teenagers and college students are preparing for the next Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity, where the ubiquitous red tape will be present again. Students from all 50 states and other countries will "speak up" for unborn children who can't speak for themselves.

The sixth annual day will take place on Tuesday, October 20, with Bryan Kemper, the head of sponsoring organization Stand True, telling LifeNews.com that over 2,200 campuses in 21 countries have students registered to participate.

"The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity is on its sixth year and there are tens of thousands of people on thousands of campuses around the world," he said. "Hearts are being changed, babies are being saved, and women are being spared the trauma of post-abortive pain. People are coming together in unity to promote a culture of life." Health bill survives attacks — vote by week's end? By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent David Espo, Ap Special Correspondent – September 30, 2009 7:19 pm ET

WASHINGTON – A White House-backed overhaul of the nation's health care system weathered repeated challenges from Republican critics over taxes, abortion and more on Wednesday, and the bill's architect claimed enough votes to push it through the Senate Finance Committee as early as week's end. "We're coming to closure," said Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., the committee chairman, as President Barack Obama lobbied at least one wavering Democrat by phone to swing behind the measure. Baucus said, "It's clear to me we're going to get it passed," although he sidestepped a question about possible Republican support. Olympia Snowe of Maine is the only GOP senator whose vote is in doubt, and she has yet to tip her hand. While she has voted with Democrats on some key tests — to allow the government to dictate the types of coverage that must be included in insurance policies, for example — she has also sided with fellow Republicans on other contentious issues. Void the Abortion Mandate Campaign Launched by Coalition of Pro-Life Groups by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor - September 10, 2009

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The coalition of pro-life groups that launched the Stop the Abortion Mandate is back with a renewed campaign, Void The Abortion Mandate. The new campaign is a concerted effort to get pro-life advocates to contact Congress and urge removing the abortion funding from the health care bills. The pro-life organizations launched a virtual rally "dedicated to educating President Obama and Congress as to how abortion will be government funded through the current healthcare legislation." It also includes a picture of a voided check and provides an opportunity for pro-life advocates to send it to Congress along with a plea to remove the abortion funding from the legislation. "Make no mistake about it - abortion will be funded by the government through the new healthcare plan," Hawkins says. "Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby have been waiting for this day when abortion will be included as part of comprehensive healthcare reform." Read full article >>

Does Health Care Cover Abortion? The Wall Street Journal - HEAVEN & EARTH - AUGUST 26, 2009

You know things have gotten confusing when even the independent "fact checking" organizations can't agree with each other. The question that tripped them up: Does health care reform cover abortion or not? FactCheck.org last week said President Barack Obama was misleading when he claimed that his health care reform wouldn't cover abortion. "It's a matter of fact," the non-partisan Web site declared, "that it would allow both a 'public plan' and newly subsidized private plans to cover all abortions." PoliFact, on the other hand, earlier sided with the White House, declaring a statement from Republican leader Rep. John Boehnera "false" that Mr. Obama's health care reform "will require (Americans) to subsidize abortion with their hard-earned tax dollars." The most recent blowup came when Mr. Obama declared, during a call with religious supporters, "You've heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion. Not true."
